ABOUT THE TRAINING Cognitive Interview Techniques were first offered to law enforcement officers about the same time that the California Supreme Court restricted the use of hypnosis as an investigative tool.
In controlled laboratory studies it was found that after only a few hours of instruction, police investigators were able to gain as much as 46% more detailed information from victims and witnesses using the Cognitive Interview technique than they formally obtained using standard police interviewing. With advanced training and practice they were able to improve information gathering by as much as 96%.
